South Veterans Parkway Project Segments
South Veterans Parkway will connect I-29 to the previously completed Veterans Parkway. Construction on the first of four segments begins in 2023.
Overview
Veterans Parkway will be the same as the section constructed north of Arrowhead Parkway. In general, the new roadway will consist of:
- Three lanes per direction
- A 32-foot raised median separating the travel lanes
- Shared use path along the south side of the Parkway
- Grass boulevard separating the path from the roadway
The speed limit along Veterans Parkway will be posted at 55 mph.
Construction
Segment 1: Western Avenue to Cliff Avenue
Components:
- A pedestrian underpass will be installed west of Minnesota Avenue.

Traffic signals compliant with the Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA) will be installed at the
intersections of Veterans Parkway and:
- Western Avenue
- Minnesota Avenue
- Cliff Avenue

Segment 2: I-29 to Western Avenue
Design: Anticipated design complete in summer 2023.
Construction Timeline: Construction anticipated spring 2024 - fall 2025.
Components:

Pedestrian underpasses will be installed between:
- Tallgrass Avenue and Louise Avenue
- Louise Avenue and Western Avenue near Harrisbug schools

ADA-compliant traffic signals will be installed at the
intersections of Veterans Parkway and:
- Albers Avenue
- Tallgrass Avenue
- Louise Avenue

Design: Anticipated design complete in summer 2024.
Construction Timeline: Construction anticipated spring 2025 - fall 2026.
Components:

- Cliff Avenue and Southeastern Avenue
- Southeastern Avenue and Sycamore Avenue

ADA-compliant traffic signals will be installed at the
intersections of Veterans Parkway and:
- Southeastern Avenue
- Sycamore Avenue
- An overpass will be installed at the BNSF railroad.

Segment 4: Sycamore Avenue to 57th Street
Design: Anticipated design complete in summer 2025.
Construction Timeline: Construction anticipated spring 2026 - fall 2027.
