South Veterans Parkway Project Segments

Overview

Veterans Parkway will be the same as the section constructed north of Arrowhead Parkway. In general, the new roadway will consist of:

  • Three lanes per direction
  • A 32-foot raised median separating the travel lanes
  • Shared use path along the south side of the Parkway
  • Grass boulevard separating the path from the roadway
  • Speed limit of 50 mph.

Current Construction

Cliff Avenue to Sycamore Avenue

Construction Timeline: 2025-2026

Components

  • Pedestrian underpasses will be installed between:
    • Cliff Avenue and Southeastern Avenue
    • Southeastern Avenue and Sycamore Avenue
  • ADA-compliant traffic signals will be installed at the intersections of Veterans Parkway and:
    • Southeastern Avenue
    • Sycamore Avenue
  • An overpass will be installed at the BNSF railroad.

A timeline showing that construction begins in April 2025 and construction activities in spring, summer and fall of 2025 will include dirt work, storm sewer, and utilities on South Veterans Parkway and Southeastern Avenue, as well as paving on Southeastern Avenue. The timeline also shows that construction activities in spring, summer, and fall of 2026 will include dirt work and utilities on Sycamore Avenue and paving on South Veterans Parkway and Sycamore Avenue. The construction activities are weather and schedule permitting.

I-29 to Western Avenue

Design: Completed

Construction Timeline: 2027 - 2028

Components:

  • Pedestrian underpasses will be installed between:
    • Tallgrass Avenue and Louise Avenue
    • Louise Avenue and Western Avenue near Harrisburg schools
  • ADA-compliant traffic signals will be installed at the intersections of Veterans Parkway and:
    • Albers Avenue
    • Tallgrass Avenue
    • Louise Avenue

Sycamore Avenue to 57th Street

Design: Complete

Construction Timeline: 2027 - 2029

Components:

  • Pedestrian underpasses will be installed between:
    • Sycamore Avenue and 69th Street
  • ADA-compliant traffic signals will be installed at the intersections of Veterans Parkway and:
    • 69th Street
    • 57th Street
  • Rehabilitation of the pedestrian underpass to Harmodon Park. See Harmodon Park Map Detour here.

Completed Construction

Western Avenue to Cliff Avenue

Components

  • A pedestrian underpass was installed west of Minnesota Avenue.
  • Traffic signals at Western Avenue, Minnesota Avenue, and Cliff Avenue are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Construction Begins spring 2023
  • Dirt Work, Utilities and road work on Cliff Avenue during spring 2023
  • Road Work from winter 2023 through the fall 2024

Construction Quick Facts: Western Avenue to Cliff Avenue

The project included 98 light poles, 4.2 miles of storm sewer, 6 miles of fiber-optic cable, 17.4 miles of wire, 11 miles of silt fence for erosion control, 9 miles of pavement markings, 2,200 pounds of grass seed, 5.8 miles of curb and gutter, and 98,000 tons of gravel.
